Not always. Internal assessment is only recommended where clinically appropriate, fully explained in advance, and carried out only with your consent.
Do I need to prepare anything before an internal examination?
No specific preparation is usually required before an internal pelvic floor examination. We may ask you to arrive with a comfortably full or empty bladder depending on your symptoms and what we are assessing, but this will be explained in advance if needed.
The examination is always discussed with you beforehand, including why it may be helpful, what it involves and what alternatives may be available. It is entirely optional and will only ever be carried out with your full informed consent.

Yes. Pelvic floor rehabilitation can play an important role in recovery following prostate surgery, particularly for urinary continence, pelvic floor strength and functional recovery.
