Specialist care for your changing body throughout pregnancy
Pregnancy is one of the most extraordinary things your body will ever do. It is also one of the most demanding. New aches, changes in how your body feels or uncertainty around your pelvic floor, core or recovery after birth can leave many women unsure where to start. There is often a lot to navigate, and not always enough clear guidance or support along the way.
Our specialist prenatal physiotherapists are here to help you feel as strong, comfortable and prepared as possible from your first trimester right through to your due date. Every member of our Women’s Health team holds postgraduate qualifications in Women’s Health, and our prenatal care is shaped by years of experience supporting women through every kind of pregnancy.
How prenatal physiotherapy can support you
Pregnancy affects every woman differently, so your care with us will always be personal to you. Some of the most common reasons women come to see us include:
Pelvic floor assessment and care
- Leaking, urgency, heaviness or pain during intimacy are not things you have to wait until after birth to address. Understanding your pelvic floor before symptoms get worse allows you to optimise your journey
Safe, effective exercise through every trimester
- Staying active through pregnancy is one of the most powerful things you can do for yourself and your baby. We design safe and evidence based exercise programmes that evolve with you, for first trimester nausea, second trimester energy and third trimester preparation.
Core strength and diastasis awareness
- Your abdominal muscles change considerably during pregnancy and there is a great deal you can do to support them. We teach you how to engage your core safely and set yourself up well for postnatal recovery.
Pelvic girdle pain and SPD
- Pelvic girdle pain is one of the most common pregnancy complaints, and one of the most treatable. We combine hands-on therapy, targeted exercises and practical advice for everyday life to settle symptoms and keep you mobile.
Back, rib and pregnancy-related pain
- As your bump grows, the demands on your back, hips and ribs grow with it. We address the root cause rather than simply managing it, with treatment that is always safe and appropriate for pregnancy.
Birth preparation and perineal massage
- The final weeks of pregnancy are an ideal time to prepare your body for labour. We guide you (and your partner) through perineal massage, pelvic floor preparation, breathing and positions for birth with practical knowledge that genuinely helps on the day.
When to start prenatal Physiotherapy
You can come and see us at any stage of pregnancy. Many women book an initial appointment in their second trimester to put a plan in place, while others come earlier with specific symptoms or later for focused birth preparation. Whenever you arrive, you are welcome.
