Specialist care to help you recover, rebuild and feel like yourself again

The early weeks and months after birth are one of the most extraordinary, exhausting and physically demanding chapters of a woman’s life. You are healing, you are sleep-deprived, you are getting to know a tiny human, and somewhere in the middle of it all your body is quietly asking for some attention.

Our specialist postnatal physiotherapists are here to help you make sense of the changes your body has been through and support your recovery with expert care. Some women see us in the first few weeks after birth. Others come months or years later when symptoms persist, exercise no longer feels quite right, or they simply want to feel more confident in themselves again. Whatever stage you’re at, it is never too early to seek support and never too late to benefit from it.

How postnatal Physiotherapy can support you

Every birth is different and every recovery is too. Your care with us will always be tailored to what your body, your birth and your life actually look like. Some of the most common reasons women come to see us include:

The Mummy MOT and postnatal assessment

  • A thorough postnatal assessment is one of the most worthwhile things you can do for yourself after birth. We look at your pelvic floor, abdominal wall, posture, scar and overall recovery, and give you a clear personalised plan. Recommended after 6 weeks postpartum.

Diastosis recti and core recovery

  • Abdominal separation is extremely common, and there is a great deal you can do about it. We assess and rebuild your core in a way that is evidence based and safe.

Pelvic floor rehabilitation

  • Leaking, urgency, heaviness or a sense of things not feeling quite right are signs your pelvic floor needs support. Where appropriate, we use real time ultrasound and EMG biofeedback to assess and rehabilitate precisely. You can attend any time post natal if you have symptoms – you do not need to wait until 6 weeks.

C-section scar therapy

  • A caesarean is major abdominal surgery, and the scar benefits from proper care long after it has closed. We offer specialist scar treatment whether your birth was last month or fifteen years ago.

Perineal and episiotomy recovery

  • Recovering from a tear, episiotomy or instrumental delivery can be slow and at times worrying. We provide expert, sensitive treatment to help tissues heal well and address any longer term concerns.

Prolapse assessment and care

  • Pelvic organ prolapse is far more common after birth than many women realise, and far more manageable than they fear. We provide full assessment, conservative rehabilitation and onward referral to our in-house pessary clinic where appropriate.

Painful sex (dyspareunia).

  • Pain or discomfort during intimacy after birth is incredibly common and almost always treatable. Most women see meaningful change quickly.

Returning to running and exercise.

  • Getting back to running, lifting or sport is a milestone, but it has to be done at the right time and in the right way. Our return to exercise assessment makes sure your body is genuinely ready.

Breastfeeding-related issues.

  • Blocked ducts, mastitis and the musculoskeletal aches that come with hours of feeding are areas where physiotherapy can offer real, immediate relief.
You are never too late

Some of the women we see are two weeks postnatal. Some are two decades on and finally addressing symptoms they have been quietly living with since they had their children. Both are equally welcome, and both will receive the same expert, unhurried care. Postnatal physiotherapy is not time-limited and your recovery is not on a clock.
